There will be significant daytime disruption for Ruddington’s drivers and bus users this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
From Monday the 27th February until Wednesday 1st of March both Wilford Road and Clifton Road are due to be closed at the construction site of our new roundabout from 9.30am until 3.30pm each day. Between these times there will be pedestrian and cycle access only.
Thankfully, through negotiation, this disruption has been minimised to three days of partial closure rather than several days of full closures. And an update from Ruddington Parish Council says they’re now aiming to reopen the road from 3.00pm each day for drivers on the school run.* Nevertheless, anyone needing to drive from one side to the other during the day will need to follow a diversion of over 5 miles via Clifton Road, Farnborough Road, Clifton Lane, Ruddington Lane & Wilford Road, or vice versa! This is a journey time of around 15 minutes – so residents are being encouraged to walk or cycle if at all possible.
BUSES which use the Wilford Road/Clifton Road junction will continue to serve Ruddington at peak times and in the evenings as normal. However all Nottingham City Transport Navy 3 services between around 09:30 and 15:30 will not be able to serve any of the Ruddington Lane, Wilford Road, Ruddington Village or Clifton Road stops.
NCT Navy 3 Bus Times 27th Feb, 28th Feb & 1st Mar:
· Towards City, buses will serve Ruddington as normal up to and including the 09:09 journey from Ruddington Green. Buses will then resume from the 15:59 journey for the remainder of the day
· Towards Ruddington, buses will depart the City as normal up to and including the 08:55 journey. Buses will then resume from the 15:30 journey for the remainder of the day
· Towards Clifton, buses will serve Ruddington as normal up to and including the 09:19 journey from Ruddington Green. Buses will then resume from the 15:54 journey for the remainder of the day
Diversion during the Closure:
Buses towards Clifton will follow their normal route to Wilford Green then continue along Wilford Lane to Silverdale, A453 Clifton Lane, Farnborough Road to The Fairham PH, where they’ll U-turn at the roundabout and return along Farnborough Road along their normal route to Clifton Shops and Hartness Road.
Buses towards City will follow their normal route to The Fairham PH, where they’ll U-turn at the roundabout and return along Farnborough Road to the A453, turning right A453 Clifton Lane, left at Silverdale along Wilford Lane to resume normal route from Wilford Green.
The LocalLink L22 & LocalLink L23 services run by Nottingham Community Transport will also be diverted during the closures.
Meantime Nottinghamshire County Council is promising the 3-way temporary traffic lights will be manually controlled at peak times during the rest of the work to try to alleviate some of the long delays which have been experienced by drivers.
And one silver lining is that the planned closure of Flawforth Lane during this same period has been put on hold – until major roadworks nearby on the A52 and the roundabout construction in Ruddington are both completed.
* UPDATE: On Day One of the closures the roads could not be reopened until 3.30pm. Workers on site have indicated to villagers that they need all the time they’ve got – so earlier reopening on Tuesday & Wednesday is also unlikely.
